HRP / Zebulon introduce updated bodywork with improved aerodynamics for the Elan DP02.
The DP02 was introduced as a spec car to run in IMSA Lights. The body was bigger and had more drag than was possible with a better design but since it was a spec series there was never a reason to improve the over all package. In the last few years several companies including HRP have been designing incremental changes, improved wings, updated splitter designs and alternate fender shapes. Early in 2020 we decided to see what could be done to improve the entire package, the body and chassis were scanned and a preliminary CFD was done. Starting with that as our baseline Ryan Neff from Zebulon MSC ran several iterations and came up with a proposed design that significantly reduced drag while improving overall down force.
Full sized models were cut from foam and temporary skins were made from them to verify clearances. Several changes were made during the validation phase and HRP proceeded to finalize the models, make molds and laminate the final parts.
The car below is the result of 1000's of hours of manufacturing and development.
The new body kit was installed on Jean Luc Liverato's chassis and debuted at the 2020 Cat In the Kettle at Road America. Qualified on the pole and won both races on Saturday and Sunday. Expect to see two of these at the 2020 SCCA Runoffs!
